Minimalist Independence Day Nail Art with Floss Gloss

Happy Independence Day! I’ve got something really different for me to show you today. From the girl who loves lots of bling and glitter…I bring you this abstract, minimalist look.

Cheers to the red, white chrome and blue!! This 4th of July nail art look was loosely inspired by the abstract brushwork designs created by SoNailicious on Instagram, but I needed just a touch more structure. Where she used the nail polish brush, I opted to stamp.

Design Details

This is another gel/polish combination design since I wanted to use Daily Charme Magic White Chrome powder for the first time. I began with 3 coats of Floss Gloss My Gangsta Boo on my thumb and 2 coats of Floss Gloss My Capitan on my ring finger. Then the remaining nails were done with Madam Glam Perfect White gel polish and Gossip No Wipe topcoat.

I used an eyeshadow applicator to rub the white chrome powder onto my index, middle and pinky nails and finished with another coat of gel topcoat.

And then it was time to stamp! Using the same red and blue polishes from Floss Gloss, I stamped all of my nails with a combination of designs from Lina Make Your Mark 01 plate. Check out Jungle Love: Multicolor Stamped Tropical Flowers Nail Art + Video Tutorial to learn about the multi-color stamping technique I used.

For the first time in I don’t know how long, I had an issue with my preferred topcoat (HK Girl from Glisten and Glow) smearing the ultra fine details in these designs. My solution ended up being a previously untried MoYou London Smudge Resistant Topcoat. This is good stuff people! Zero smudging or bleeding.

But I really tried hard to stick with the minimalist theme. While the topcoat was still wet, I applied tiny pieces of Daily Charme Gold Foil (the gold leaf type) strategically on all nails.

I added another layer of topcoat to my thumb and ring nails so I could place a Clou Creative Frame Round and Mini Square Open Frame from Daily Charme and a touch of Swarovski Crystals in Clear, Light Siam and Cobalt. And the look was complete!

    It looks absolutely divine Karolyn.xoxo

  • Absolutely gorgeous! I feel like I’ve walked into an abstract gallery, everything works so beautifully together. I don’t quite know how you’ve done it but every tiny detail looks perfect. Hands down the coolest July4th nails I’ve seen 🙂

    • Awww, thanks so much Ithi! I’m blushing. So glad to hear I achieved the truly different 4th of July look I was going for! xo

  • Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed this one!

Hi Karolyn, this design is a refreshing change of pace for you, and I personally enjoy the less-is-more aesthetic. <3 Was this mani quicker to complete since you didn't have all the complicated details of your *usual* style?? 😉

    • Hello my dear Cat!! You were on my mind the whole time that I worked on this look! I thought you might enjoy seeing me do less-is-more. To answer your question, I spent more time than usual practicing and trying out different approaches to achieve the design I had in my head. But once I knew how I wanted to do it, it was quicker to create. Hope you’re enjoying the summer!! xoxo

WOW this design is just perfection! the lines are so clean and crisp, and I just love the little brushstrokes only in the center.

  • What a fabulous design idea for the holiday, not the in your face stars & stripes. I like it a lot!! That white chrome makes a very festive base indeed! It’s great to see you venture outside of your comfort zone style too. And, BTW, really loving your blog re-design!!! <3

    • Thanks so much my friend! I’ve done the stars & stripes before and really wanted to do something different…or nothing at all. I’m thrilled my readers didn’t run screaming and actually liked this. Perhaps the incentive I need to wander out of my box again! So happy you like to re-design as well…my new pet project! xoxo
