Today I have a design for you that brewed for a while in my mind before finally taking shape on my nails. It will likely be the last Christmas nail art I share with you this season and I'll admit that it is my personal favorite. Shall we?
This design was loosely inspired by something I saw on Instagram where the artist had mixed chromes and textures. After a little testing with various powders, glitters and crystals I came up with this idea.
Would you believe that something so pretty starts off looking like this??? I opted to do this design with gel but it is also quite possible to use lacquer instead. I'll mention now that I cured at all the right times but didn't want to add more words to the post for each time I cured a nail.
I used 2 coats of these colors as follows from thumb to pinky: Madam Glam Black Is The One One Step Gel, LeChat Perfect Match On The Red Carpet, Kiara Sky Egyptian Goddess, Madam Glam Shimmer White and Black Is The One again. My index, middle and ring fingers received a coat of Nobility High Gloss Top Gel Sealer.
There were many steps involved in creating this look and I started with the steps that would hold up best while I worked on the rest of the design. First I applied What's Up Nails Absinthe Powder over the 2 Madam Glam Black Is The One nails. I finished them with a thin coat of Gossip Gel Specular No-Rub topcoat.
It's been shown that one step gels like this one have similar properties to No-Wipe topcoats and work well with powders. If you have spent a minute on Instagram in the past 6 months you are already well versed in applying these powders so I won't waste words there. 😄 But I will say that I dabbed on this powder with an eyeshadow applicator and blended it with my finger for best results.
Next I applied Daily Charme Mirror Gold Powder over the Kiara Sky Egyptian Goddess on my middle finger. Daily Charme recommends using this powder over a tan base for the truest color result and I did this application with an eyeshadow applicator alone. Again I finished with a thin coat of Gossip Gel Specular No-Rub topcoat.
The next step was to add my ribbon tree over the gold chrome. Some people may be able to just place the crystals into the proper position while others could freehand a pattern to follow on the nail. For me tracing a Ribbon Tree Stencil from What's Up Nails worked best.
I used a thin nail art brush to apply Akzentz Bling On over my trace and began applying Swarovski Flatbacks in Dark Moss Green ss5 until I reached the top. There I placed a 5mm Swarovski Flatback Rivoli Crystal Star.
I worked on my ring finger next, applying Akzentz Bling On to the entire nail. Then I randomly placed 5 Swarovski Flatbacks in White Opal ss7 before coating the nail in Swarovski CrystalPixie in Comic Pop.
I saved the messiest step for last. I coated my index nail with Nobility Gloss Top Gel Sealer and used the tacky layer to apply Madam Glam Love Potion Glitter Powder. I wanted a textured look so I didn't apply topcoat for the photos.
I found that applying one of those non-latex tapes around my finger and under my nail was a real life saver when it came to glitter clean up!!
The final step was an impulse decision. I had planned to leave the green chrome nails unadorned but I have the biggest problem doing that!! So I added 1mm Silver Glitter tape and a simple Brushed Silver Square Stud.
I also couldn't decide which bow I liked best for the final photo and opted to share both of them with you.

Oh my is that a lengthy list of products!! I am so excited to hear your thoughts on this design! I worked on it for about 8 hours with all of the photo breaks and photo checks, but I bet it could be done in an hour or less without interruptions. What do you think of the powders? Have you used them in your nail art?
Thank you very much for your support this past year!
I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas!
