Hello 2017! Foil Stamped Nail Art with Dance Legend

Who’s ready for the New Year??? I sure am! And what better way to welcome 2017 than with a super sparkly and shiny design? Let’s take a look…

Some of you may recall my passion for Dance Legend’s WOW Prism polishes. The sparkle is absolutely amazing and I just LOVE them!! I actually had to move them to a lower storage drawer to keep myself from using them in every design. Using foil with nail art is ‘IN’ again and I thought the combination of the two could be stunning.

The new year will bring about a change on the blog. While I will continue to explain my designs step-by-step, I plan to stop doing progress photos. Mainly because they take a lot of extra time and effort to include and I am not certain if they are adding value. Since it is the finished nail art photos I see being shared on social media I will be using more of those instead. If you feel I am making a mistake, or that I’m doing the right thing, I encourage you to let me know in the Comments below!

Design Details

First I began by prepping 10 areas on my Twinkled T Glamour Mat for stamping decals with OPI Topcoat. Once dry I worked on one decal at a time and stamped a firework from Sugar Bubbles SBS12 plate with Sally Hansen Silver Sweep polish. Then I quickly pressed Stamping Foils from Hologlam Decals over the firework and rubbed over the area with my finger.

In contrast to the foils I’ve tried in the past for stamping these are very thin, like Moyra’s Magic Foil if you’re familiar, and they adhere very well to regular nail polish. I finally gave up on trying to make the magic happen on my nail. Because tamping decals are easy to do and the foils work consistently. Check out my closing for a special deal from Hologlam Decals!

The design started with 2 coats of Dance Legend polishes in these colors from thumb to pinky: Gothic Veil, Just Another Star, Through The Glass, Just Another Star again and Party Time. And I finished with a coat of Glisten & Glow HK Girl Fast Drying Topcoat.

Next, I applied Clear Chevron Vinyls from Polished Vino to my index, middle and pinky fingers and polished the lower portion of my nail with 2 quick coats of Dance Legend Gothic Veil. I quickly peeled the vinyl off and finished with more topcoat.

Then, working on one nail at a time, I applied a thin coat of HK Girl Fast Drying Topcoat, removed a decal from the mat and used my fingers to apply it and smooth it out. This was a short term design for me so I did NOT finish these with additional topcoat.

I did, however, do some testing and Picture Polish Revolution, a water-based topcoat, and Madam Glam No Wipe Gel Topcoat both provided a shiny, long lasting finish without ruining the foil. Fast drying topcoats will eat the foil so steer clear of those!!

And, finally, I was ready to apply my number charms that were made for floating lockets. They had some weight and a shiny, slick back so I used Akzentz Bling On to attach them.

I was really happy with the way these turned out. I was going for sparkly and shiny and I definitely got it! And I’m fairly sure they would have been blinding if I attempted a sun shot. 😎
