Happy Christmas Eve! Here I am burning the midnight oil (it's 4AM) trying to sneak in more holiday nail art. As if Christmas came as a surprise to me again this year. LOL! But I realized earlier that I'd yet to show the traditional colors and I just had to use my new Unicorn!
I created this design for the 'Candy Cane' prompt in the "12 Days Of Christmas" challenge you've been hearing about. The challenge ends today and I've only accomplished 4 out of 12 designs and I am pooped. Congratulations to those that completed all of them! It's a lot of work.
I think I may have perhaps mentioned before that I am in LOVE with the Unicorn series from Lacquer Lust. Did you get your LE Christmas Unicorn? I noticed it is still available! Their glitter jellies are awesome too and I was excited to add a few more to my collection for the holiday.
I began by applying 2 coats of Lacquer Lust Meet Me Under The Disco Ball over my base on all of my nails. Once dry I added a coat of I've Been A Good Unicorn to my middle finger and thumb, as you'll see later. I used it as a topper to lighten it a bit. I just received my first bottle of Girly Bits Glitter Glaze Topcoat so I am trying it out with this design. It dries really fast and, if anything, it adds more sparkle to the glitter!
I created the swirls on my index and pinky fingers by applying Candy Swirl Stencils from Loki's Nail Vinyls and filling them in with Lacquer Lust Forbidden Fruit and Poison Ivy. I finished with more topcoat and added a 3 and 4mm Clear Swarovski Crystal from Artbeads while it was still wet.
Between the use of itty bitty caviar beads and creating stamping decals using designs with the smallest details I have really strained my eyes this season. But I fell in love with this design when I first saw it on Chez Delaney's website. And I was really surprised that my plates arrived before Christmas so I had to use at least one of them. This design is from their new Noel A001 plate.
This is another one of my designs that required crazy amounts of product. With their metallic sheen and single coat opacity these M Polish 5 free polishes/stamping polishes were perfect for filling in my decal. From left to ornament: I Need A Vacation, Get Lost, Snowberry, Carol and Elizabethian.
I applied the stamping decal to my ring finger and stared at my Unicorn nails over a cup of coffee. My original plan was to leave them unadorned. And you can see how well that worked out for me!
I embellished them with Swarovski Crystals from Artbeads in sizes from 2 to 5mm in Clear, Light Siam and Dark Moss Green. And, of course, I just had to add some Silver Caviar Beads from WiiNo Shop to fill out the cluster. I planned to go easy with the crystals, but you know me when it comes to bling!
I was a little sad when I reviewed my photos and saw that my decal was consistently obstructed by glare, despite shooting in a light box. That will teach me for applying it over an off-the-hook silver glitter polish! Happily I captured a nice, clear close up shot of it for you.
Basecoat and Topcoat: Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter A-Peel and Girly Bits Glitter Glaze (not shown)
Base polish: Lacquer Lust Meet Me Under The Disco Ball
Accent polishes: Lacquer Lust I've Been A Good Unicorn, Forbidden Fruit and Poison Ivy
Stamping plate: Chez Delaney Noel A001
I was really happy with the way this design turned out! I started without a plan so it took many more hours than it could have, but well worth the effort I think. Next year I think I will do a pink peppermint design as a nod to the Peppermint Ice Cream that I can't get enough of right now.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this design and I would also love to see what you'll be wearing for Christmas! You can add your photo with your comment below. And don't forget to take a peek at the designs created by other group members. I may or may not be back tomorrow so I am going to wish you a Merry Christmas now. I hope you have a wonderful holiday!
Thanks for reading! I'll see you at the next post.
