Happy St. Patty’s Day everyone! I am hoping to have not 1, but 2 new posts for you today. Yes, seriously. Wish me luck! Let’s get started with swatches and my review of this gorgeous green polish from Serum No. 5.
I discovered Serum No. 5 last Fall and quickly fell in love. Not only do they make amazing polishes that are vegan and cruelty free, but they also make monthly charitable contributions based on sales. I thought that was so impressive and really speaks to the character of this company. I have amassed a nice little collection since then and I really need to make it a priority to get more of them posted for you to see.
This year they started doing “one-and-done” releases. Essentially they develop a small batch of a new color each month and it is not restocked once it sells out…and they ALWAYS sell out so don’t wait if you want one! I skipped January since yellow and I are not that friendly. But I have February and March, both of which were color coordinated for the holiday occurring that month.
March 2015 is a light green crelly polish loaded with glitters in dark green, emerald green, lime green and white in sizes from micro to medium. Despite the impressive glitter payout, the polish had a nice consistency and was easy to work with. I found I got the best results by adding a bit of the “dab and spread” technique along with my regular strokes to encourage the larger pieces of glitter off of the brush. Then there was no need to fish for glitter or fuss with the placement for these photos. I also allowed the polish to dry completely between coats.
This macro photo is the most accurate representation of how this polish appeared in person. For whatever reason my camera had trouble capturing all of the detail in the other photos. I am wearing 2 coats of March 2015 over a base of Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter A-Peel. This polish dries down matte and has a lot of texture from the glitter so I applied 2 coats of HK Girl Fast Drying Topcoat for a smooth, shiny finish.
Did I mention that this beauty also glows in the dark?? Serum No. 5 really excels in their glow in the dark (GITD) formulas and they offer an abundance of choices. In person the glow I saw was more of a white to light green color, but the camera captured it as a blue…go figure.
Now that I’ve had the opportunity to wear a few of their GITD’s I have noticed that some seem to be “stronger” than others, for lack of a better word. This one scared the hell out of me the first night I wore it to bed!! I had been working under normal lighting conditions all day and that was all it took to “charge it up”. I hopped into bed, shut off the light and nearly jumped out of my skin when I caught a glimpse in my peripheral vision.
I am not a green person at all, nor is my Mom. You will not find a single article of green clothing in my closet and, up until this year, you wouldn’t have found any green polish in my stash either. But we both fell for this polish and are happily wearing it today. Between the base green and the blend of glitters I feel this is a wearable color for anyone.
I’d love to hear what you think of this shade. Have you had a chance to try any of the other monthly polishes? I am sad to report that March 2015 is sold out, but April is right around the corner!
Thanks for reading! I’ll see you at the next post.
