Heart of Gold: Valentines Nail Art featuring Literary Lacquers

press sample, purchased by me
Literary Lacquers The Ruby Thief, Literary Lacquers Tesseract, Literary Lacquers I Heard the Bells

I am finally back with my 2nd Valentine’s nail art design! This one features polishes from Literary Lacquers, a favorite indie brand located right here in New Mexico with me. And this heart design coincidentally fits perfectly with this week’s theme for my N.A.I.L. Group. I love when that happens!

I was totally kicking myself the other day when I was picking out polishes for this design. On Super Bowl Sunday Amy, the lady behind the Literary Lacquers, ran a great sale. Apparently I was not thinking about Valentine’s Day at that time because I talked myself out of making a purchase because I still haven’t had a chance to use the last 4 awesome polishes I purchased from her. As if this has EVER stopped me before! {Palm hits forehead} So I had to get extra creative and work with what I already had, hence the disclosure up top.

Literary Lacquers The Ruby Thief, Literary Lacquers Tesseract, Literary Lacquers I Heard the Bells

I began with 3 coats of Tesseract on my thumb and middle finger over a base of Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter A-Peel. This polish was one of two in my first order from Literary Lacquers and I reviewed it and used it to create a Halloween design called Pumpkin Patch. Then I applied 2 coats of The Ruby Thief to my index finger and pinky and 2 coats of I Heard the Bells to my ring finger. You may remember these two polishes from my December review of the 2014 Community Collection. I finished with a healthy coat of HK Girl Fast Drying Topcoat.

I am really hooked on this Sugar Bubbles SB011 plate and used part of one of the designs to stamp the string of hearts and dots using Mundo de Unas Gold stamping polish. I accented the larger dots with small Round Flatback Gold Studs from Born Pretty Store. These studs are a fun change of pace from those that sit flat on the nail.

I used Sugar Bubbles SB011 again to stamp the heart design over Tesseract with Mundo de Unas Gold stamping polish.

The finishing touch was applying this amazing 10mm Swarovski Heart Flatback in Crystal Astral Pink to my ring finger. I wanted to use the 14mm, but someone rained on my parade and told me it was too big. Anyhow, since these aren’t cheap as far as rhinestones go I attached it with a small piece of an adhesive tab used to apply false nails. This method doesn’t do any damage to the foil backing on the rhinestone so I’ll be able to wear it again.

It was so much fun watching the crystal change colors and seeing how the polishes interacted with it in different lighting conditions. From top to bottom: in the light box, indoors under an OttLite and in direct sun.

I have a few more ideas in my head and just hope that I don’t run out of time! Don’t forget to scroll down to see the designs from other group members!

Wow! What a beautiful nail art!

  • Thanks so much Linda! Glad you enjoyed it! 🙂

Hi Karolyn, these are just beautiful. I especially like the gold heart stamping over Tesseract" on your thumb and middle finger. It must be so difficult to get full coverage with the stamper on your glamorous, long nails! Also, somehow the different products and tools you used for this mani are greater than the sum of their parts. When I was looking at your shot of the polishes, stamping plate, and embellishments, I though that it didn't look like you actually used that much equipment! But the final mani appears more complicated and polished at the same time, if all that makes sense.

Ah, how I wish I could stamp as nicely as you do!

  • Thank you so much Cat! It's funny that you mention that nail…the one I had to redo from scratch before I was satisfied! I stick to stamping plates that have XL designs, or regular size designs that aren't intended to cover the entire nail. It makes sense! Sometimes I use 15+ products in designs that look simple and vice versa. So glad you enjoyed it! <3

  • Thank you and you can Karise! I had the hardest time learning and look at me now. Just keep practicing and be sure you are using the best tools for your nails. You may find something helpful in my Nail Stamping 101 section. Best of luck to you!! <3

love the combo of gold and hot pink. and that Tesseract looks like a gorgeous off-white!

  • Me too Jacqui! Thank you! Tesseract is my favorite white holo. Amy added a touch of pearl that makes it extra special, IMHO. I may actually finish the bottle, and that like NEVER happens!! <3

I read your posts, they are so informative! Thanks for sharing! I tend to 'cheat' a little by using the reverse stamping technique as it ensures me that the image will go on nicely. But then I realised it is rather time consuming too :/

  • Thank Monica! I think I got a little syrup-y after this design, but I also loved how this one turned out!! <3

  • Wow. Amazing nail art!! *__*

  • Thanks so much Ninthea! <3
