When I saw “Favorite Indie” as one of the prompts for October in my N.A.I.L. Group (Nail Art Ideas Linkup) I thought to myself “well that will be an easy one”. Famous last words in nail art land. I have a drawer of Colors by Llarowe polishes, so that choice was easy. But as I started riffling through it in search of a color combination it dawned on me…if I am going to pay homage to my favorite indie it should to be good, REALLY GOOD.
First I need to thank Nancy B. from my CBL Group for coming up with a name for the design. I was having a brain dead day and I knew those ladies would come up with something wonderful!
I decided to use one of my early Colors by Llarowe
purchases, Tequila IV
, and a color I bought last winter that never made it onto my nails called Moonshine
(go ahead, smack me!). I applied 2 coats of Tequila IV
to every finger except my ring finger, which received 2 coats of Moonshine
. I finished with a coat of HK Girl Fast Drying Topcoat
The plan changed a little as I started to give more thought to my design and I repolished my middle finger with Moonshine
. I used Half Moon’s
to tape off on my thumb, index and pinky and quickly polished with 2 coats of Moonshine
. I added another coat of HK Girl Topcoat
, as I always do before stamping.
The boozy names of the polishes aside, I saw a very elegant combination when I looked at my nails and decided to go with that theme. I stamped my middle finger with MoYou London Fashionista 08
and my ring finger with Fashionista 07
using Mundo de Unas Light Gold #40
I finished the design by adding a combination of rectangle, marquise and small round clear rhinestones to the edge of the half moon on my thumb, index and pinky fingers.
I was excited to head outside to see these polishes in direct sunlight. As I expected, they didn’t disappoint!
One last look in a new hand pose I am test driving. What do you think? Does it make my hand look fat? Yeah, I actually asked that! Maybe I shouldn’t be writing posts at 2:45AM. 🙂
Basecoat and Topcoat: NailTek Foundation II and HK Girl Fast Drying Topcoat

It didn’t occur to me until I was completely done with this design, photographing and all, that I had chosen two colors that Llarowe has retired. What a crappy thing to do showing you colors you can’t buy, right? I am really sorry! I took a look at colors that are currently available to try to make up for my fail and Golden Touch and Blonde Ambition look like suitable replacements for Tequila IV. Moonshine was a bit more challenging with it’s jelly sparkle formula. Perhaps Billy Jean would give a similar look. I don’t own any of them to compare for you but I’d love to get some feedback from CBL fans.
I hope you enjoyed this design and I would love to hear your thoughts! I couldn’t have been happier with the way it turned out. Don’t forget to scroll down to see the Favorite Indie polishes of other group members.
Thanks for reading! I’ll see you at the next post.
