Hello my Fellow Nail Artists! Today I have a design that was inspired by a prompt in one of my nail art groups: Funky French. I sometimes use a French Tip in a design, but this will be the first time it has been the focal point and I'm a bit excited about it!
I've been watching everyone post gorgeous Fall nail art designs for the past few weeks and it's been killing me not to do one of my own! But it has been 90° here in New Mexico just about every day and it just didn't feel right to be sporting a Fall design. It dropped to 80° today and I caved. I have a few new polishes I purchased just for Fall nails and I was so psyched to try out 2 of them today!
I started off with 2 coats of KB Shimmer Run! It's the Coppers! on my thumb, middle and ring fingers. Then I applied 2 coats of KB Shimmer You Autumn Know to my index and pinky fingers. It is a white crelly loaded with gold, orange and purple glitters that applies "poufy", for lack of a better word, and thins as it dries. So I gave it some time to dry in between coats and before I finished all of the nails with a coat of HK Girl Fast Drying Topcoat.
Would you believe these are my 1st two bottles of KB Shimmer?? Have I been living under a rock?!? Run! It's the Coppers! is gorgeous and I have nothing like it in my collection. I wasn't sure when I ordered it how well the copper would work with my fair skin tone, but I think it looks awesome! And I have to tell you (well I probably don't actually since you have eyes) that the holo is incredible! It easily did it's thing in these indoor photos.
I let my nails dry completely overnight before I started working on the tips. I used French Tip guides because my freehand in laughable and applied 1 coat of Run! It's the Coppers! to the tips of my index and pinky fingers. Since You Autumn Know isn't opaque in 1 coat I applied a coat of Rica Whiteout first on my remaining tips and then dabbed on the crelly for the best glitter payout in a single coat. Again I gave it some time to dry before finishing with another coat of HK Girl topcoat.
No Fall nail art design is complete without leaves and I came across a grouping of 3 Maple leaves on my Bundle Monster BM-004 plate. The design has a perfect, subtle curve to it that made it ideal for adding the "Funky" to my french tips. I've had a squishy-firm rectangle stamper in my stash for a while now that I can't use on my nails because of the pronounced C curve, but it worked great for this. I stamped each nail with Mundo de Uñas Cafe #22.
The sun was still up when I finished so I rushed outside to snap a few photos for you in direct sunlight. These polishes are just so gorgeous!
I wanted to include this closeup of the You Autumn Know bottle so that 1) you could see just how jam packed with glitter it is and 2) so you can see how the glitter transforms on the nail. I love the muted, almost watercolor look, of the pieces in the undercoat combined with the more vibrant pieces in the upper coat. Another truly unique polish for my collection!
Basecoat and Topcoat: NailTek Foundation II and HK Girl Fast Drying Topcoat
Main polish: KB Shimmer Run! It's the Coppers!
Accent polishes: KB Shimmer You Autumn Know, Rica Whiteout
Stamping plate: Bundle Monster BM-004
Stamping polish: Mundo de Uñas Cafe #22
This is one of those rare designs that came out exactly as I pictured it in my head! Maybe even a little better since I couldn't have predicted the amazing "holoness"! I was oh so tempted to name this design after KB Shimmer's play on the Alanis Morrisette song I'll know by heart for life. But nothing says Fall to me more than my first sip of my beloved Starbuck's beverage, the Pumpkin Spice Latte. And with the AC cranking in my local establishment it was almost like being back home in New England...almost.
I hope you enjoyed this design and much as I do. As always, I would love to hear your thoughts!
Thanks for reading! I'll see you at the next post.
