Life’s A Beach Skittle Nail Art Design

Greetings Nail Artists! Today’s manicure was created for the MoYou London 10K Nail Art Challenge, which I haven’t participated in nearly as many days as I had hoped. It’s Day 13 of the contest (and only my 3rd entry) and the theme is Childhood. I reflected on my childhood memories and narrowed my choices down to two things I really loved: seeing the animals at the zoo or circus and long summer days at the beach. And the winner is:

Swatch of Colors by Llarowe Young Turks.

Nearly all of the products I used to create this design were new to me. Very exciting! I started with two coats of Young Turks and this color is just gorgeous. So much so that I didn’t want to stamp over it and will very likely wear it “naked” someday soon. Plus the formula was perfect.

I topped it off with the HK Girl Topcoat that arrived the other day. After reading so many wonderful reviews I had to try it for myself. I applied it right over my wet polish and it went on like a slightly thinner version of Seche Vite. I didn’t see any of the shrinkage I sometimes get from SV and the drying time was comparable. And, as you can see, it had no negative effect on my holo polish as some topcoats do. The big difference I noticed with this topcoat came when I removed a stamp I wanted to do over again. Since I was stamping with regular polish my heavy duty tape trick wouldn’t work and I needed to swipe it off with nail polish remover on a cotton pad. To my surprise, the stamp came right off, my base color was untouched, and I still had a layer of shiny topcoat. So, of course, I had to see how long the topcoat could hold up and I was able to swipe off once more before I broke through to my base color on the third attempt. I don’t know about you, but I am lucky if I can swipe off once when wearing Seche Vite. This topcoat is said to wear very well with customers reporting little to no tip wear in 5-7 days. I wish I could come back to you with some statistics on how well it holds up for me, but my manicures last a day or two at the most so I can keep the blog going.
Image after all fingers were stamped with MoYou Sailor plates.
I stamped each finger with Donna using five different images from the Sailor plates. I added another layer of HK Girl and my stamping did not smear of smudge at all.
I free handed a coat of Amber onto the tips of my index, middle and pinky fingers to create the sand for my beach. Amber is a golden bronze matte, suede finish polish so I topped it off with my new Top Sahara and PRESTO I had textured polish. Kudos to Dance Legend for creating this topcoat! It was such a great idea and I am truly surprised no one thought to do it sooner. I added my mermaid and anchor charms from Daily Charme while I waited for my “sand” to dry.

Finally I went to town, adding 2 different size seashells, small starfish and pearls. When I was done, I looked it over and decided it still needed something. Seagulls! What beach is complete without them? I stamped them on using Mundo de Unas white.

So what do you think of this one? I’ve had everything I needed to do this design for a while now and was just waiting for an opportunity. Thank you MoYou for reminding me of all those days I spent at the beach when I was younger. I couldn’t be happier with the way this design turned out.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this nail art design! I’ll see you at the next post.
