A Love Story: A Skittle Nail Art Design

Hello Nail Artists! I have another manicure to share with you today that was created for the MoYou London 10K Nail Art Challenge. I was originally hoping to create a lot more entries for this contest. But I have decided not to stress quantity and focus more on creating quality designs for the themes that really inspire me. This manicure was created for Day 15 and the theme was “Love”. I give you A Love Story…

I started with two coats of Fuchsia Illusion, my first ever thermal polish. I have to give a shout out to Tamira over at Lacquer Lockdown. Her gorgeous pictures prompted me to try Liquid Sky Lacquer and I am so glad I did! I can’t say enough good things about this polish. The formula was perfect and opaque in 2 coats and I LOVE the colors. I did the silliest thing the day I planned to do this manicure and filed my nails down by half beforehand. What was I thinking?? But, as you can see, the thermal was still very pronounced even on my shorter nails. I wore this polish for a few days after this manicure and had the best time watching the colors change, or sticking my hands into cold water to force the change. My Mom saw it on my nails and had to try it herself and I’ve already placed an order for more colors.

Then I stamped images from MoYou London’s Rebel 02 and Scholar 02 plates using Mundo de Unas black polish.

Now time for the fun part…embellishments! I bought the diamond ring charms and the diamond studs on my thumb in one of my first orders from Daily Charme. At the time I had no idea what I would use them for but they were so unique and magical that I had to have them. As soon as I saw the “Love” theme I knew I had to work them into the design.

I am sure you’ve already figured out this Love Story, but I thought I would share it in my own words. It begins with a childhood crush on my pinky, blossoms into dating in High School and through College, leading to an engagement, followed by the happy couple sharing a quiet moment alone after their nuptials. A diamond is forever, so I’ve used it on my thumb to symbolize their endless love.

Did you enjoy this design? I’d love the hear your thoughts about it in the Comments section. I was pleased with this design and it came out exactly how I pictured it in my mind.

I hope you liked this nail art design! I’ll see you at the next post.

  • Thanks Sparkle Queen! I hadn't seen them before either and just HAD to buy them!

  • Oh those are SO cool! I have never seen embellishments quite like that, but you used them so well! They completely go with with the look 🙂

  • Thank you MsDaswoman! I'm glad you liked it! Yes, I do use nail glue for the larger accents I use, like this diamond ring. I use just a tiny dab and am able to easily pop off most of my accents, with polish to spare underneath when working over base, 2 coats of polish and a decent topcoat. Then I use acetone on a pad to get the glue/polish combination off of my nail. I think it's well worth the extra effort and encourage you to give it a try. You'll be glad you did!

  • Love it! I am assuming you are using nail glue to add rhinestones accents. Do you just soak your nail in acetone, or wrap it with cotton soaked in acetone? Have been afraid to use the nail glue on my nails, but love this look. Just been kind of wondering how hard it is to remove.

  • Thank you Anne! I took a trip down memory lane with this one…

  • Gorgeous1 I absolutely love this design!
